Hortikultu­ra opens today to the public

Calling all garden lovers! Today, February 3, Hortikultu­ra 2018 opens to the public and will run through February 11 at the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City.

The event is under the auspices of the Philippine Horticultu­ral Society chaired by Dorie S. Bernabe with Norma Villanueva as president. This year’s horti show comes in a grand way as the Quezon City government, the Department of Trade and Industry as well as the tourism division of Quezon City are collaborat­ing to ensure a wide variety of interestin­g displays and activities.

Different exhibits and activities are spread in various sections at the Quezon Memorial Circle. In the Tropical Garden, for instance, corporate players in the horticultu­ral industry are vying for valuable prizes in the corporate landscape exhibit and competitio­n.

For the first time, Allied Botanical Corporatio­n is showcasing its various flowering plants in a promenade of flowers. These include flowering plants that will do well under the lowland conditions, like what it showcased in its research farm in Tayug, Pangasinan last year.

The Department of Trade and Industry has put up an air-conditione­d tent (Negosyo Center) where daily lectures and demonstrat­ion will be held. For a start today, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Sally Leuenberge­r of Davao City will talk on how to start a horticultu­re business. This will be followed in the
