DepEd clarification on early registration
The Department of Education (DepEd) yesterday clarified that the ongoing early registration in public schools nationwide covers incoming kindergarten, Grades 1, 7 and 11 learners since those in remaining grade levels are already considered pre-registered.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones, in DepEd Order No. 03 series of 2018, noted that early registration or the pre-registration of learners which takes place prior to the opening of classes and scheduled from the last Saturday of January to the last Friday of February each year is mainly for incoming kinder and grades 1, 7, and 11. “Incoming Grades 2-6, Grades 8-10 and Grade 12 are already considered pre-registered,” Briones said.
Pre-registered learners are those who “underwent the early registration process but are not considered officially enrolled.”
Early registration for the coming school year 20182019 is scheduled from January 27 to February 23.
Briones stressed this as she issued the “Basic Education Enrollment Policy” which will be implemented for SY 2018-2019 and the subsequent years “to institutionalize an efficient enrollment process in public and private schools, and state/local universities and colleges (SUCs/LUCs) offering basic education nationwide.”
No fee collection As in previous years, DepEd reiterated that no fees should be collected from learners who will participate in the early registration. Membership fees and contributions that may be collected on a voluntary basis, she said, should be done after enrollment.
“Non-payment of voluntary contributions shall not prohibit enrollment of learners,” she added.
Briones said that the collection of authorized voluntary contribution, “should not be done during the schedule of release of financial assistance” for Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) or the 4Ps recipients. “In no instance must the school collect contribution out of the 4Ps subsidy,” she ended.
