Church invites public to Walk for Life on Feb. 24

- By CHRISTINA I. HERMOSO

Catholic Church leaders are inviting the public to support and join the Walk for Life on Saturday, February 24, 2018 as an expression of solidarity with the Church in the preservation and protection of the sanctity of life.

Organized by the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas, the annual walk will be held at the Quirino Grandstand parade grounds in Manila from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. as one voice that rejects all forms of threats to life including abortion, extra judicial killings, birth control, euthanasia, drug-related killings, and the reimposition of the death penalty.

“We are inviting you all to a very important event, the Walk for Life. Let us walk for life. And as we walk, let us highlight a very important God-given gift, the life that we, sometimes, fail to respect,” Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle said.

Walking is a symbol of life. Let us walk for our fellowmen, for our brothers whose lives are beset not only with problems but also with threats. Let us stand and walk. Walk for life,” added Cardinal Tagle.

Lipa Archbishop Gilbert Garcera, chairman of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines-Episcopal Commission on Family and Life, for his part said: Life is important, we must preserve and protect it.

Borongan Bishop Crispin Varquez said that as the faithful supports the Walk for Life, he helps spread the Good News, that we must respect and support the sacredness of life as a God-given blessing.”

Caceres Archbishop Rolando Tria Tirona, chairman of the CBCP/NASSA-Caritas Philippines, reminds the faithful that “life is a journey and we must make our journey worthwhile.

Our journey becomes significant when we recognize that every single life comes from God, thus we must respect and protect it,” he said.
