Carapiet reelected FIM prexy
Stephan “Macky” Carapiet became FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme or International Motorcycling Federation) Asia’s first-ever president to be re-elected in the past 20 years to the top post during the 2017 FIM Asia General Assembly and Elections that were hosted by Thailand’s motorcycle federation, FMSCT in Bangkok on February 3, 2018.
Representing the National Motorcycle Sports Safety Association, the Philippine motorcycle federation, Carapiet got the nod of 18 voters from the total 27 present to reclaim the top post that he relinquished to the incumbent president Wan Zaharuddin Wan Ahmad (AAM-Malaysia) in 2013 FIM Asia General Assembly and Elections held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Carapiet was magnanimous in victory, as he acknowledged his predecessor’s achievements and vowed to work with the former leader and the continental union’s growing number of stakeholders over the next four years and bring FIM Asia to greater heights.
He nonetheless expressed optimism over the continental union’s future when the names of his vice presidents were announced after two rounds of voting. The elected Vps, whose terms will be coterminous with the President’s are Issa Alawadhi (BMF-Bahrain), Sujith Kumar (FMSCTIndia), Gong Hong Guo (CMSA-China) and Stanley Yasuhiro (GMAC-Guam, USA).
“This is a powerhouse lineup of my team,” said Carapiet. “We’ve got a VP who will look after the issues and interest of our brothers from the Middle East, VPs from India and China.”
