Extremists transferre­d from Davao City jail to BJMP Taguig

DAVAO CITY – Seven members of the Islamic State-inspired Maute group and two members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) were transferre­d, Sunday, from the Davao City Jail in Maa District here to the highly secured detention facility of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City.

This, after the Supreme Court acted on the requests of the BJMP-Davao, City Peace and Order Council, City Prosecutor­s Office and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenza for the immediate transfer of detention and venue of trial of the highrisk inmates.

Their trial will also be transferre­d from the Regional Trial Court (RTC) here to the RTC in Taguig City.

In a statement released to media, BJMP 11 director Sr. Supt. Amelia A. Rayandayan said the detained Maute Members were charged with terrorism and multiple murder with multiple frustrated murder in relation to the Roxas Night Market bombing on September 2, 2016 that killed 15 people and injured 69 others on September 2, 2016.

She said the detained Abu Sayyaf members were charged with kidnapping with homicide in relation to the kidnapping of John Ridsdel, a Canadian National last September 21, 2015 at a Resort in Samal, Davao del Norte.

Insp, Edo Lobenia, spokespers­on of BJMP 11, said the BJMP’s Special Tactics and Response (STAR) Team, together with the personnel from from Task Force Davao and PNPHigh Way Patrol Group Region 11, undertook the transfer of the nine high-risk inmates.
