Radar watching Sucat motorists
The country’s first unmanned and contactless traffic apprehension system was launched in Parañaque City.
Mayor Edwin Olivarez said that starting Wednesday, motorists on Sucat Road are expected to be extra careful not to violate traffic rules because the radar-based system is in place.
Olivarez said the system regulates traffic flow at the corner of Sucat and Kabihasnan Road near Manila’s busiest airport, residential and commercial centers.
He said that the system is unlike anything that the government uses to spot road violations.
It is similar to those installed in first world countries such as Singapore, Australia and the United States.
The radar technology developed in the US, provides the city traffic division with a more efficient way of catching red light offenses.
The system also detects average speed when entering and leaving the enforcement section.
Olivarez said high-speed highdefinition cameras can photograph plate numbers and send them to a central processing hub which is linked with the database of the Land Transportation Office, the police traffic division and even the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.
Traffic citations are sent to the registered address of violators. Vehicle owners who fail to pay the penalties for their violations could have problems in renewing their vehicle registrations.
