8 teams vie for Grand Prix crown

Games Tomorrow (Ynares Sports Arena, Pasig City) 2 p.m. – Generika-Ayala vs Foton 4 p.m. – Sta. Lucia vs Petron

Four teams led by fancied Petron and Foton start their respective title bids tomorrow when the 2018 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix fires off at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The Blaze Spikers battle the Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors at 4 p.m. while the Tornadoes collide with the Generika-Ayala Lifesavers in the 2 p.m. opener.

A total of eight squads are battling for the crown this year with F2 Logistics gunning for its second straight title.

The official opening ceremony, however, is set on Feb. 24 at the Sta. Rosa Sports Center in Laguna before Petron meets Cignal at 2 p.m. and F2 Logistics tangle with Cocolife at 4 p.m.

Joining the cast is Smart Prepaid, which debuts in the league on Feb. 27 at the Muntinlupa Sports Center.

Finishing bronze last year, Foton hopes to open its campaign on a bright note by parading a new coach in Rom- mel Abella after Serbian mentor Moro Branislav joined Cocolife.

Maika Ortiz, Mina Aganon and returning Dindin Santiago-Manabat lead the Abella’s local crew and will be reinforced by American Brooke Kanda, Canadian Elizabeth Wendel and Serbian Katarina Vukamanovi­c.

Petron, for its part, has the same intact frontline bannered by Aiza Pontillas, Ces Molina, Mika Reyes, Rhea Dimaculang­an with Americans Lindsay Stalzer and Hillary Hurley coming back for another shot at the crown.
