Ateneo recovered from a poor start as it subdued University of the East (UE), 21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-14, yesterday in UAAP women’s volleyball at The Arena in San Juan City.

It was the second straight win in four outings for the Lady Eagles, who turned to spiker Jho Maraguinot in regaining their composure.

Maraguinot paced the squad with 20 points built on 17 kills, two aces and one block even as skipper Maddie Madayag rose to the challenge and chipped in 12 points.

Kat Tolentino and Bea De Leon also provided help with 10 points each.

The Lady Eagles survived their erratic plays especially in the opening frame where they saw their slim 17-16 diminish as the Lady Warriors pounced on the attack line bannered by Shaya Adorador.

Ateneo turned to its net defense anchored by Madayag and De Leon to dominate the next frame.

Heather Guino-o and Toni Rose Basas scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, to lift Far Eastern University over University of the Philippines, 25-23, 2512, 25-19, in the second game.

The Lady Tamaraws improved to 2-1 while the Lady Maroons dropped their second in a row for a 1-2 slate.

In men’s matches, Far Eastern University outplayed tough University of the Philippines, 30-28, 25-21, 24-26, 25-16, to remain unbeaten in four matches.
