Enrique Gil’s next serye, “Bagani,” out by March, sees him doing action-packed scenes enhanced by computergenerated imagery. “It’s the most expensive teleserye in the Philippines history to date, pinaka mahal na budget,” he said. “We’re going to tell a good and epic story to the people ng walang ginagaya as this one is very original.”
Although they only started taping on location last year in Subic, Bataan and Bulacan, “Bagani” is actually five years in the making.
Doing an action-fantasy series is new for him and he enjoys the experience to the hilt. More than rom-com, we asked.
“Siyempre mas comfortable ako du’n sa rom-com as that’s where I started,” he said. “I gave up a lot of my years and life doing that pero ito kasi it’s different po.” For “Bagani,” Enrique had to study “makatang Tagalog.” “It’s fun and very intriguing,” he mused. Enrique also had to lose weight for his role and train for his fight scenes with Stunts 360 of action directors Lester Pimentel. “Lahat kami nag-a-adjust kasi nga hindi kami sanay dahil first time namin gumawa ng ganitong klaseng genre,” he said. “Hanggang ngayon nag-a-adjust pa rin kami pero it’s exciting eh so you won’t get bored doing it.”

“Bagani” is set in Sansinukob that has five autonomous regions where superheroes are needed to go up against evil creatures.
Enrique plays Lakas, a Bagani warrior with solid principles and a good heart. His leading lady is none other than Liza Soberano as Maganda. Enrique says the show is a platform to teach children about Philippine legends. Others in the cast are Matteo Guidicelli, Makisig Morales, and Sofia Andres. The show will premiere on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida block.
Approval Enrique talked about the real score between him and Liza. “Parang kami na (pero ’di official),” he said. “Siyempre I respect her lolo kasi may promise siya na at a certain age – 23, 24 pa siya pwede mag-boyfriend.”
He revealed Liza’s grandfather calls him “Manu...” (short for “manugang” which means in-law in English). “Nu’ng sinabi sa akin ibig sabihin (ng word na ’yun), natuwa naman ako. Siya ’yung very strict pero parang boto naman siya,” the actor said, smiling. Enrique has been patiently wooing the young actress. “Wala naman akong hinahabol. Sure na ako, sure din daw siya so sure na kami,” he said. Recently, Enrique introduced Liza to his relatives in Europe. It was the first time he presented a special someone to his family. He happily said everyone “loves” and “accepts” Liza.
Knight in shining armor
Enrique is very protective of Liza. During the shoot of her upcoming film “Darna,” he watches over her do scenes while in harness.
Actually, Enrique was supposed to be part of the film but that changed when a new project was offered to him.
How about Liza’s costume? Did Liza ask for his approval? “Wala naman akong magagawa pero siyempre si Direk Erik Matti (director of ‘Darna’), he wants to do something na may purpose. Very intricate kasi siya so kung anong gagawin ni Direk Matti I trust him and I trust his decisions in everything,” the actor said.
What Enrique really likes about Liza is her genuine heart and being simple. “Tsaka ’yung pag-aalaga niya sa akin. Hindi ko ipagpapalit sa kahit ano pa man. Maalaga siya as in sinasabi ko
‘Para kang nanay ko’ pero I meant it in a good way, compliment siya,” he said.
Enrique revealed Liza often gets lonely and scared when she’s home alone that’s why they usually video call each other.
The actor recently introduced as the newest ambassador of Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro. He is joining Liza in the family, who was first to become endorser.
