Tagbilaran No. 1 again in Bohol dengue cases

-

TAGBILARAN CITY - For the fourth straight year, this city has the highest number of dengue cases all in the province of Bohol, says the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

The PHO Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Reymoses Cabagnot, reported there were 219 dengue cases, with two casualties, in Tagbilaran in 2017, 365 cases with three deaths in 2016, and 516 cases with three casualties in 2015.

Cabagnot said Tagbilaran remained on top of the list because it is densely populated, and houses are close to each other.

There are more male patients than are female, and most victims are from one to five years old, he said.

For the entire province, the Pro- vincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU) listed 1,028 dengue cases with eight casualties from January 1 to December 31, 2017 compared to 2,878 cases with 20 fatalities in 2016.

The 2017 data showed Carmen town second to Tagbilaran with 81 cases but with no casualty, followed by Talibon town with 77 cases and four fatalities; Dauis with 64 cases with no casualty; Panglao town with 46 cases and one casualty; Loon with 34 cases, Ubay with 32 cases, GarciaHernandez with 30 and Sierra-Bullones with 27 cases, all with no deaths.

Cabagnot said the number of dengue cases will drop once the residents become more sanitation-conscious and learn to keep their surroundings clean. (Dandan A. Bantugan)
