Sports for peace
DAVAO CITY – The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) said it will mainstream its Children’s Games initiative, a program that was revived last year in Davao City to promote a culture of peace among youths from different religious backgrounds. Around 600 children joined the two-day Children’s Games Festival called “Duwa Nan Batang Siargaonon” held in Siargao last week. PSC Mindanao coordinator Pochollo Elegino said the sports agencies were planning to return to Siargao by the third quarter to hold an island-wide Children’s Games. Launched in 2008, the Children’s Games was previously cited by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) as the only government agency-initiated program for the youth that brings together indigenous people, Christians and Muslims through sports.
