- By GENALYN D. KABILING

President Duterte is mulling on giving each municipality P100 million to support local government unit programs.

Addressing members of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) at the Manila Hotel last Tuesday night, the President said he might offer financial aid to the local government units depending on the national government’s budget next year.

“Kung may problema mo talaga, maybe next year, give me time. Every municipality man siguro ‘yan may hinihingi kayo. Siguro tig-100 million per municipality. Okay na ‘yan? [If you have a problem, maybe next year, give me time. Every municipality has been asking for something. Maybe 1100 million per municipality, is that okay?],” the President said in his remarks, drawing applause from the audience.

“We are earning… We will see next year but I am... Meron akong i-set aside for you [I will set something aside for you],” he added.

The President, meantime, has warned anew local officials against getting involved in the illegal drugs trade o face death.

Duterte asked the local government units to support the government’s campaign against illegal drugs instead of allowing drug menace to destroy the community.

He said some politicians “went to the extent of building a platform for the drug operations at the expense of government using city hall as the staging area.” He noted that some drug-linked politicians even had their policemen killed, consequently “castrating government.”
