GMA Pinoy TV readies concert series for OFWs

In order to reach out to more Filipinos abroad, GMA Pinoy TV will hold the “Sikat Ka, Kapuso!” concert on April 7 at the Newark Symphony Hall in New Jersey, USA then on April 8 at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto, Canada.

The show features Dennis Trillo, Jennylyn Mercado, Lovi Poe, Alden Richards, Betong Sumaya, and Dingdong Dantes.

Lovi knows these Filipinos get homesick that’s why they are always excited seeing Kapuso actors.

“The fact that we’re gonna be there celebrating with them, I think that makes a huge difference already,” she said.

Dingdong hopes that through the music, they would somehow be able to bring the Philippines just a bit closer to Filipinos overseas.

Dennis agreed, adding, “Ang swerte namin kami ’yung mga napili para pumunta at i-entertain sila. Kasi madalas, dito kami umiikot sa Pilipinas.

So maganda ’yung once in a while bumibisita naman kami du’n para makita namin ’yung mga kababayan na kailangan naming aliwin.” Jen loves the “warm” reception they always get from OFWs, as “punongpuno sila palagi ng emosyon” was how she put it. “Masarap mag-perform ’pag excited sila kasi mas nakakagana,” she explained.

It’s the same fulfillment for Betong.

“Ang sarap kasing mag-perform sa harap ng kapwa natin Filipino du’n, ’yung bawat smile nila, bawat tawa nila – ’yun ’yung mga precious moments na hindi mo mabibili ng ano mang halaga o material na bagay kasi ibig sabihin na-a-appreciate ka,” he said.

Flashback

Lovi shaded her experiences from the first show they did abroad.

“It was really fun as we got to interact with the audience. They were very lively and everyone was so game. We have a few people who came up on stage and told their stories. So, kinatahan namin sila ng songs na bagay sa nangyayari sa kanila.”

Although suffering from jetlag then, the company they keep assuaged it all.

“Sobrang sarap sa pakiramdam na nagkakasundo kayong lahat (na artista),” Jen said. “’Yun bang walang maarte, walang may ere so sabi ko, ‘Ang saya nu’ng team na ’to.’ Kaya nu’ng nalaman namin na meron pa ulit ay ‘Let’s grab it kasi masaya.’ Sobrang nag-e-enjoy kami,” she said. For Betong, the memorable experience for him was the meet and greet session.

Dennis is excited that despite the show being postponed several times, things came together in the end.

He added this series will have a more “intimate” feel to it, and more interactive.

More kulitan

Jen will have a song and dance num- ber with her “lovey” Dennis. As for Lovi, she will take on the songs of her current favorite artist, Dua Lipa. “’Yung mga songs na ’pag narinig ng Kapuso audience natin eh mamimiss nila ’yung Pilipinas,” Betong said. It is said Alden and Betong were highly requested to be part of the show.

“Siya ’yung taga pag-pakilig, ako naman ’yung fun part,” the comedy actor said. “Masaya lamang dito kasi iba-iba kami ng hinahatid na putahe.”

Dingdong, who joins the group for the first time, admits feeling pressured over performing with GMA’s top artists. “Sana ’wag akong batuhin ng kamatis,” he joked. “Pero e-enjoy-in ko lang ’yung mga songs.”

The artists were asked if they’re going to hit two birds with one stone by checking out those places after the show.

Dingdong and Lovi can’t as they have pressing commitents in the Philippines.

But for the on–and-off-screen partners Jen and Dennis, they have one-andhalf day to see the place. So, what’s the plan, we asked.

“Siguro mag-shopping,” the actress said.
