The perfect time

For Reconnection, Reflection and Atonement

- By KATHRINA YSABEL PINEDA

For Filipinos, Holy Week or the week before Easter is of great importance. The faithful consider it as the time of sacrifice and contemplation. As such, most are given the time off from work and school so they can reflect on the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus.

However, not all Filipinos are alike. During this long week occasion, some take this as an opportunity to go out of town while others just choose to stay home. It could just be the perfect time to reflect and reconnect with oneself. Here are some of the things you can do at home:

Binge-watch and chill

Remember that series you’ve been putting off because of too much work? Why not take this time to finally watch what happens next to your favorite characters. Chill inside your home with just you, your tv or laptop, and buckets and buckets of popcorn.

Give yourself some R&R

Have a spa day in and out of your home. You can take this time to pamper yourself. Get a cut, a color, a massage, or even two. Spoil yourself with that much needed relaxation you deserve.

Visita Iglesia

This old Roman Catholic tradition has been a practice for majority of families. The idea is to visit churches to pray before the Blessed Sacrament, or the Stations of the Cross. Take the time to hear mass and even marvel at the beauty of the different looks of churches in the city. Plus, you get to spend more time with your family.

Go back to your hobby

Have you ever been so caught up at work from school or your office that you can’t remember the last time you did what you love to do? How about you do them this time. Grab your guitar. Pick up your pen. Dust off your old paint brush. Relive the old times, go back and do what you are truly passionate about---even just for a short while.

Do some spring cleaning

Doing some cleaning may feel like a chore but it sure does calm the mind with its after results. Who knows, maybe you would even get to find that other pair of your favorite sock you have long been searching for.

Read on

The same goes for books. Feed your mind and imagination by finally finishing that book you have always wanted to read up to its last chapter. And who doesn’t find comfort in the smell of books?
