Antoinette recalls journey to finding her life’s purpose

- By STEPHANIE MARIE BERNARDINO

Not everybody knows that aside from being an actress, Antoinette Taus is an advocate of various campaigns and has done numerous humanitarian works.

“I’ve been in the entertainment industry all my life but never before in my 36 years of existence have I ever felt this kind of passion, happiness and inspiration for life,” she said about finding fulfillment in helping others.

“I feel we all live our lives moving forward, trying to be successful in our jobs, in our work. Thinking that’s how the world should be or it would make us happy. I’m grateful I was able to find this other path.”

Antoinette recalled recovering from over 10 years of depression after her mother passed away in 2004 due to cancer.

According to the actress, her journey through depression opened up her “heart, eyes and soul” to many things she never realized. Particularly, the gift of empathy. “In a world full of disconnection where people are so busy living for themselves, the key to finding why we should do what we are doing is that gift,” she said.

“Kung namatay man ang mommy ko at nalubog ako, para sa akin hindi ’yun naiiba sa nararamdaman ng mga tao na nawalan ng bahay o simpleng may nakipag-break sa kanila.”

She said it’s usually hard moving forward but one ought to remember that taking small steps have big impact.

Antoinette advises to find people who really care about your welfare.

“As people are coming, help is coming. The universe is here. God is here to help and bring you the right people.”

She reminded that everyone has a special gift to offer in making the world a better place.

Preserve and protect

One of the things the singer-host advocates is caring for Mother Earth.

Now, Antoinette considers the Philippines one of the most beautiful and riches country in the world in terms of its natural resources and environment. But she noted that a lot of people do not realize the importance of the country’s vast biodiversity.

She said her heart is always full whenever she hears people talking about how they want to go on vacation to exotic places or trying food of foreign countries. “We truly have so much to offer. Ang problema maraming lugar

dito na maraming natural gifts pero kung hindi man ito naaabuso, hindi naman sila nabibigyan ng magandang pagkakataon para

ipakita what they can truly offer. Kasi natatalo sila ng consumerism,” she said.

Antoinette hopes that through former environment secretary and former chair of the ABS-CBN Foundation, Gina Lopez, they will be able to inspire more Filipinos to volunteer in helping preserve and protect the beauty of the country.

The actress firmly noted that above profit, the people and the planet should always be first on the list.

“Success is measured not by money. It is measured by the lives that are changed and the good that is brought into the world,” she said.

And while some people may not have the resources and the means, she said everyone can afford to have courage, passion and the fire to volunteer and stand by a mission and be part of something bigger.

Show makes a difference

Antoinette supports “The Quest For Love,” a nationwide search that aims to help communities launch their own sustainable businesses. These will be documented on “G Diaries.”
