Ex-La Union town police chief arrested for murder

CAMP DANGWA, Benguet – The former chief of police of Tubao, La Union,who was implicated in a murder case in 2014 was arrested last Monday in Quezon City, the Police Regional Office-Cordillera, reported yesterday.

Chief Superinten­dent Edward Carranza, Cordillera police regional director, identified the arrested suspect as Chief Inspector Diosdado Mirador Mejala.

He was arrested in Monday morning in front of the PRBS office at Camp Crame, Quezon City, by a composite team headed by the Cordillera Regional Intelligen­ce Division by virtue of an warrant of arrest issued by Presiding Judge Maria Ligaya Itliong-Rivera, of Branch 5, Regional Trial Court, Baguio City, who did not recommende­d a bail bond for his temporary liberty.

Mejala is one of the suspects in the murder of Frank Joselito Dacanay Lopez on June 17, 2014.

Lopez’s body was found dumped in Suello Village, Baguio City.

The victim, prior to his death, openly criticized the proliferat­ion of flies form poultries in Tubao.

Before he went into hiding, Mejala was reassigned to MIMAROPA in 2008 after he was charged for a crime of Murder.

The case against the police official was dismissed due to lack of probable cause. It was, however, refiled after a reinvestig­ation, hence, the issuance of his warrant of arrest on July 23, 2015.
