There’s a new school in town

National Book Store opens NBS College for School Year 2018-2019

The shift in the country’s education system provided several benefits to the Filipino students. Adding two more years in high school, making a 13-year education cycle, is not only fully preparing the students for tertiary learning but it is also making them ready to join the work force by equipping them with skills that will make them competent in the global job market. It means that right after senior high school, students can opt to look for a job or choose to enrol in college, or pursue higher education.

Despite these realistic benefits, having a college education is still a better option if an individual wants to succeed in life. With it, more doors of opportunities are opened and earning a college degree is a great investment for your future.

IN SUPPORT OF EDUCATION

National Book Store (NBS) marks its 75th year by creating an institution for higher learning in Quezon City. After continuously supporting Filipinos’ education and learning, NBS is taking the next step with NBS College, located on the third and fourth floor of the National Book Store building on Quezon Ave. cor. Scout Borromeo and Panay Avenue.

“Generation after generation, we have seen families do whatever it takes to give their children proper education. A diploma for many Filipinos is more than just a piece of paper, it is their hope for a better life. My Lola Socorro says that one of her frustrations in life was that she was not able to afford a college education. Because of this, she made it her life’s mission to make as many Filipino students as possible achieve the education that she herself could not achieve,” says Adrian Ramos, NBS College president.

For the school year 2018-2019, the college will be offering its pioneer batch six in-demand degree programs: BS Accountancy, BS Accounting Information System, BS Entrepreneurship, BS Computer Science, BS Library and Information Science, and BS Tourism Management.

“The programs we offer reflect the entrepreneurial heritage of National Bookstore as well as the demands of business and industry today. Accountants and information specialists are high in demand while the tourism and technology industries are expected to be in the economic drive of the country. Our goal is to make each of our students ready for the real world. That is what’s different and special about our education,” says Ramos.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

The college is not your typical classroom to OJT learning. Every school year, students from first year to fourth year college will experience intensive on-thejob training and fieldwork while studying through simulation classrooms.

Its modern facilities and highly competent faculty help create an environment of collaborative learning.

“Each student will learn the critical foundations of their course and will be required at every level to put this into practice. The workplace is more dynamic and challenging than ever before and the skills that we would teach: collaboration, resilience, patience, hard work combined with the fundamentals of each course will be the winning formula that will make each of the NBS college graduates ready to succeed,” says Ramos.

With a team of academic professionals with significant track records in the academe, Ramos says that the school will not only teach fundamental skills but will also share its vision for a real-world approach to education.

“We are working hard to establish industry partnerships and linkages, which will help define and solidify the student’s readiness to track all the realities of each field. Some of our teachers are representatives from our partner companies that will help in bringing life to this vision of experience-based learning that prepares our students for the real world,” he says.

SCHOLARSHIP GRANTS

True to its values of nurturance, benevolence, and service, NBS College offers academic scholarships and scholarship grants for its pioneer batch. Pioneer students will be given

R12,500 each per year for four years that they will be at NBS College to assist them in their schooling and expenses. Moreover, their tuition fee will stay the same for four years. The top graduating students from senior high school will also be given appropriate merit-based scholarships.

“Apart from the scholarship grant program, NBS College is also giving merit-based scholarship grants to top graduating students in Senior High School while the National Bookstore Foundation will give 10 scholarship grants in the pioneer batch. We at NBS College look forward to a strong and better Philippine society by producing highly productive, responsible, and innovative graduates who are ready to make a difference,” says Ramos. According to lawyer Deborah Acosta-Cajustin, there will be two payment options for the student: the full cash payment and the bi-monthly payment scheme. “For the cash payment, we will offer R1,000 discount. For those who want to pay installment, we have the bi-monthly payment scheme for four months for each semester ranging from R2,500 to R3,800 depending on the course. The full tuition fee ranges from

R25,000 to R40,000 per semester, depending on the course, inclusive of miscellaneous and other fees,” she says. NBS College will open this August.
