‘No to poll bets with drug links’

- By HANS AMANCIO

Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada has appealed to the voters to reject Sanggunaing Kabataan (SK) and barangay election candidates involved in or linked to corruption and illegal drugs, citing President Duterte's relentless campaign against drugs and corruption.

"I am appealing sa ating mga botante (to our voters) to reject yung mga candidate na sangkot sa korapsyon at sa illegal drugs (to reject candidates involved in corruption and illegal drugs). This is the reason why I am appealing to all to vote for candidates who are actively fighting the war against corruption and illegal drugs at the barangay levels," he said during a recent League of Municipalities in the Philippines gathering.

Estrada said that in doing so, the voters will not only contribute in abolishing illegal drugs in the community but also support President Duterte in his campaign.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) chief Director General Aaron Aquino earlier released a list of 143 village chiefs and 146 village councilmen supposedly involved in illegal drugs, which Estrada said voters can use as a guide in voting wiesly.

"I am also appealing for support for President Duterte’s campaign against criminality and corruption. We can help by help if we unite in rejecting officials involved in corruption and illegal drugs," he said.
