The B-side of ‘Bae’neracion
‘Dati kasi talaga nahihiya ako kumanta. Even with, you know, even to my wife I wouldn’t sing.’
The 38th Oporto International Film Festival Best Actor Ian Veneracion will hold the concert “IAN In 3 Acts” with guest performer L.A. Santos on April 21 at the Grand Pacific Ballroom in Waterfront Cebu.
Ian noted the concert will have a “flow,” visuals, props and “like creating scenes” musically.
“Everybody knows I’m more of
an actor,” Ian said. “‘Kumakanta ba ’yan?’ ’Yun ang aabangan nila – kung bakit ginawan ng show si Ian.”
As the title suggests, the show has three parts: Act One is “who you know” showing Ian as we know him; Act Two is “who you don’t know,” which the actor describes as “the other side of me and my whole music. The music that I listen to, the music I enjoy playing;” and Act Three is “who I really am,” a combination of the first two acts.
“I want to show my type of music, my taste in music,” he added. “I’m more for the classics and rock, raspy.”
Few know or remember this, but Ian has been playing the guitar and the piano since age 11.
Yet he never really explored it as a facet in his career. “Dati kasi talagang nahihiya akong kumanta, mahiyain ako. Even with, you know, even to my wife I wouldn’t sing,” the actor explained “Pero music has been a big part of my life.”
At the concert, Ian will sing his original songs like “We’re All Alone” that was recently launched on MYX, Spotify and iTunes. There will also be a part in the show when Ian would play the piano with Jong Cuenco a flutist; then the guitars, too.
“Humataw ako, hahataw ’yung gitarista natin. Tapos magsasagutan ng gitara,” he excitedly shared. “’Yun ’yung hinahanap kong magic, ’yung hindi mo alam kung saan pupunta. ’Yun ’yung gusto kong part ’dun eh, the exploration.”
The actor is a fan of songs from his father’s time such as the hits of John Lennon, Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens.
Given the chance to collaborate with other artists, he would want it to be Chikoy Pura or Aiza Seguerra or Jett Pangan.
Since another layer of his talents have been peeled, what more should the audience watch out from him? Maybe a sexy number? “Kilala niyo naman ako, hindi ako nagpapasexy. ’Di ba? Basta, I’m sure masu-surprise sila. We have our own way naman of making ‘pakilig.’ Pero walang sexy dance number and that I can assure you.” Reminiscing his “That’s Entertainement” days, he admits he used to lipsync. “If I’m going to sing certain songs, I’m gonna do the songs I love performing. Nandoon ’yung puso mo sa ginagawa mo and the musicians na gusto mong katrabaho.” Ian will also do a show in Manila on May 13 at Resorts World Manila. With Ian’s success in the industry, people wonder if he will allow his kids Draco, Deidre and Duccio to enter showbiz. “You know, that will be their own adventure,” he simply said.
