The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) bagged an international award in a global conference in South Korea for its notable study and recommendations on good local governance.

The Department’s regional office in Cagayan Valley earned the Best Practice Award for its study entitled “Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG): The Blueprint in Defining and Directing DILG Region 2 Programs, Projects and Activities Implementation and Service Delivery.”

The award was presented during the International Association for Public Human Resource Development (IAPHRD)’s 4th International Conference at the Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul.

DILG officer-in-charge (OIC) Eduardo M. Año cited the DILG Region 2 for initiating the study whose objective is for the agency to maximize the SGLG results by coming up with responsive interventions such as capacity development, technical assistance or policies that will further enable and empower local government units (LGUs).

“My commendations to the DILG Cagayan Valley regional management for harnessing the results of SGLG in identifying the strengths and weaknesses of LGUs in your region in order to assist them to improve their governance performance for the benefit of the people,” he said.

For the past three years, the SGLG annually conferred by the DILG has been a badge of honor and pride to LGUs that meet good governance standards.

Three personnel of DILG Region 2 conducted the study and presented it in the IAPHRD paper conference in South Korea with the theme “Advancing Strategic and Humanistic Public Human Resource Governance for Innovation and Public Value.”

Local Government Operations Officers Maybelle E. Anog, Kelinda A. Vidad and Ricarte M. Castro presented the SGLG as an effective mechanism of the DILG in improving local governance and creating champions in LGUs in the Philippines.

They have beaten representatives from 11 countries namely South Korea, Haiti, Rwanda, Ecuador, Tanzania, Bahamas, Cambodia, Nepal, Mozambique, Lao People's Democratic Republic, and Indonesia.

“We are grateful that we did this study that has paved the way for the DILG's SGLG to be recognized in the international arena. The SGLG proves to inspire not just LGUs in the Philippines but our international development partners as well,” said Vidad.
