- By ELLALYN DE VERA-RUIZ

Vice President Leni Robredo’s net trust rating has been downgraded from “very good” to “good” in the first quarter of 2018, according to Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey results.

The nationwide survey conducted from March 23 to 27 found 58 percent of Filipinos with much trust, 23 percent undecided, and 18 percent with little trust in the Vice President.

These translate to a net trust rating of +39 (percent much trust minus percent little trust), classified by SWS as “good.”

It is a 13-point decline and down by one grade from “very good” +52 (66 percent much trust, 14 percent little trust) net trust rating in the fourth quarter of 2017 survey conducted by SWS last December.

SWS terminology for net trust ratings are translated as follows: +70 and above as "excellent;" +50 to +69 "very good;" +30 to +49 "good;" +10 to +29 "moderate;" +9 to –9 "neutral;" -10 to –29 "poor;" -30 to –49 "bad;" -50 to –69 "very bad;" and -70 and below "execrable."

Robredo's net trust rating was a moderate +29 when SWS first surveyed it in December 2015.

It rose to good levels from January 2016 to May 2016, ranging from +30 to +45, and reached very good levels of +63 in June 2016 and +58 in September 2016.

It returned to good levels from December 2016 to September 2017, ranging from +30 to +45.

It rebounded to very good +52 in December 2017 and went back to good +39 in March 2018.

Net trust ratings of the Vice President remained very good in Visayas, and moderate in Metro Manila.

However, it fell by one grade from very good to good in the rest of Luzon and Mindanao.

It remained very good in Visayas, although down by eight points from +64 (77 percent much trust, 13 percent little trust) in December 2017 to +56 (70 percent much trust, 13 percent little trust) in March 2018.

It remained moderate in Metro Manila, although down by four points from +27 (51 percent much trust, 24 percent little trust) in December 2017 to +23 (52 percent much trust, 28 percent little trust) in March 2018.

However, it fell by one grade from very good to good in the rest of Luzon, down by 15 points from +56 (68 percent much trust, 12 percent little trust) in December 2017 to +41 (56 percent much trust, 15 percent little trust) in March 2018.

Similarly, it fell by one grade from very good to good in Mindanao, down by 18 points from +50 (63 percent much trust, 13 percent little trust) in December 2017 to +32 (55 percent much trust, 23 percent little trust) in March 2018.

SWS clarified that its survey question on trust rating is different from satisfaction rating as the former gauges public trust in a personality as a whole, while the latter asks about public satisfaction with an individual's performance related to his/her position or duty.

It pointed out that satisfaction with the performance of Robredo as Vice President was higher among those with much trust in her.
