Bea Alonzo gives take on marriage and divorce
Like most Filipinos, Bea Alonzo believes in the sanctity of marriage.
And because her latest movie “Kasal” delves into the subject, as well as relationships and love, we asked: Is she ready for it? Does she believe in it? Does she see herself married five years from now?
“For me, marriage is the deepest kind of commitment. Pero I also believe na ’yun ang bagay na hindi mo mapaplano. Hindi ko masasabi kung five years from now (ay magpapakasal
ako),” she said. When the interview gravitated towards divorce, Bea, standing by her Filipina values, said, “This is just my opinion and without judgement to those who believe in divorce. Ako, I don’t believe in divorce kasi para sa akin ay napakaimportanteng commitment ang
marriage, eh. Why get married if you’re going to divorce eventually or if there is an option to get divorce? Para
lang naman sa akin ito and I don’t judge the people who believe in divorce and who are going to divorce.”
She believes plunging into marriage works on gut-feel as “naniniwala talaga ako na dapat puso mo ang nararamdaman mo sa bagay na ’yan.”
She explained this further by saying, “Like, I have friends who are married and most of them sinasabi nila sa akin na kapag na-meet mo na ’yung tamang tao, you’ll just know.
You’ll just know it will come.
Bea did no movie last year as TV work sidelined such projects. “I was busy doing “A Love To Last.” Na-extend ’yung soap opera kaya buong taon ay ’yun lang ang pinagkaabalahan ko. Almost everyday kaming nagte-taping so wala talagang room sa schedule ko to do a film,” she explained.
But this year, the actress got a handful of movies, starting with “Kasal” which also stars Derek Ramsay and Paulo Avelino; a horror movie and a film with Aga Muhlach.
“Puro TV lang ang ginawa ko last year so na-excite ako na gumawa ng movie,” she mused. Reunion She and Derek were first paired in “One More Chance” followed by “And I Love You So.” “It’s great (working with Derek) again. It feels good na makatrabaho si Derek din. May ibang chemistry rin (kami). Iyon ang na-feel ko, at least. When we do a scene together parang ang dali ng lahat kapag nagkakaintindihan kami. Noong napapanood ko sa monitor, natutuwa ako kasi, sabi ko, na-miss ko talaga si Derek sa isang Star Cinema movie. At lagi kong sinasabi ito sa mga past interviews ko, si Derek is born to be a leading man, ’di
ba? Just love his jawline, ang guwapo, oozing with sex appeal and he’s a good actor. Parang may mga taong ganoon, born to be an actor, born to be a leading man,” she said of her leading man.
Working with director Ruel S. Bayani for the first time is a welcome experience for Bea. She rattled off her discoveries about her first-time director.
“Ang pinakana-enjoy ko sa pakikipagtrabaho kay direk Ruel S. Bayani ay ’yung pagiging open niya at pagiging generous niya sa collaboration sa amin. Sobrang natutuwa ako na tinatanong niya kami kung ano ang
suggestions namin, kung ano ang take namin sa mga eksena. That way, nao-own talaga namin ang characters namin. Ako I’d always wanted to work with him. I am a fan of his work. Ang dami niyang pelikulang napanood ko like “No Other Woman,” “One More Time.” Finally, nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon and privilege to work with
him. Sa totoo lang, parang bitin na bitin. Sana makatrabaho ko siya uli.”
Asked if she enjoyed being called a “movie queen” by no less than the movie queen herself, Susan Roces, Bea sweetly said it’s “flattering.”
“Siyempre nakaka-flatter po kapag naririnig ko. Pero para sa akin po ay marami namang queens, movie queens of this generation. Nandiyan sina Angel Locsin, si Angelica Panganiban. But of course, nakaka-flatter kasi first love ko ang paggawa ng pelikula. Ito talaga ang medium nanae-enjoy ko. I guess all I can say is thank you.”
