In school year (SY) 2017-2018, the DepEd said a total of 1,013 of the 12,890 private schools were allowed to implement tuition increase nationwide.
The number includes schools in 17 regions but not those in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
Earlier, Education Secretary Leonor Briones said schools that are allowed to increase tuition have to undergo “steps to ensure that the increase is reasonable and in accordance with DepEd guidelines which state that 70 percent of the increase must go to teachers’ salaries.”
