-

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the widening of Davao River Bridge along Davao City Diversion Road in Davao City, Davao del Sur.

President Rodrigo R. Duterte and Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar formally opened to the motoring public the newly-widened bridge on Thursday, May 24, 2018 together with Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte, Davao City Second District Rep. Karlo Alexei B. Nograles, DPWH Senior Undersecretary Rafael C. Yabut, DPWH Undersecretary Dimas S. Soguilon, and DPWH Region 11 Director Allan S. Borromeo.

According to DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, the completion of the project will help decongest traffic along the busy Davao City Diversion Road and Ma-a Road, benefiting about 30,000 motorists per day based on the 2017 Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT).

The project is in line with the ongoing widening from four (4) lanes to six (6) lanes of the 18.3-kilometer Davao City Diversion Road to cater to the increasing demand of road space in the city.

“Using Davao City Diversion Road, travel time between Barangay Ulas and Barangay Buhangin will be reduced from 80 minutes to just 30 minutes,” Villar said.

The R317.81-million Davao River Bridge Widening Project covers the construction of additional two (2) lanes to the previous 4-lane bridge crossing Davao River. It spans 140 lineal meters with approaches of 87.38 lineal meters.

Scope of works also include the construction of abutment protection works, reinforced concrete approach slab at both abutments, installation of reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings, construction of sidewalk, provision of craneway steel component and asphalt overlay.
