Geodetic engineer hacked to death by father and son

BUTUAN CITY – A geodetic engineer was hacked to death by a father and his son in Purok 3, Pague-pague, Barangay Dugan, Barobo town, Surigao del Sur province.

Initial report received by the Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) here from Surigao del Sur Police provincial Office (PPO), identified the victim as Engr. Allan Para Montes, 42, a resident of Purok 4, Barangay Poblacion, Bunawan town, Agusan del Sur.

His body and neck bore several hack wounds that caused his instantane­ous death, Surigao del Sur PPO report said.

The Surigao del Sur PPO report identified the suspects as Hipolito D. Berdin, Sr., 65, and his son Ramil, 38, both residents of Purok 2, Barangay Dughan, Barobo town, Surigao del Sur province.

Initial investigat­ion conducted by the Barobo Municipal Police Station (MPS) showed that the victim was preparing his gadgets to start the survey at 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday when he was attacked and hacked by the suspects hitting him in the neck and other parts of his body.

“The victim was hired as a land surveyor to survey the land of Mr. Librado Montes and heirs when he was attacked by the suspects,” Barobo MPS report said.

The suspects allegedly used sharp bladed weapon locally known as “sundang” in killing the victim.

Berdin Sr. voluntaril­y surrendere­d to the personnel of Barobo MPS while the younger Berdin was arrested and turned-over to the authoritie­s.
