3,000 PH flags displayed in Imus for National Flag Day celebration
IMUS CITY, Cavite — A total of 3,000 Philippine flags are on display along Aguinaldo Highway and other main thoroughfares in this historical capital of the province ahead of the 120th National Flag Day celebration on Monday – a special non-working holiday here.
Contained in Proclamation No. 493 signed recently by Acting Executive Secretary Michael P. Ong, Malacañang declared the event a holiday in Imus – the “Flag Capital of the Philippines” – to give officials and residents the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion.
The City Tourism Development Office said that putting up the flags on Aguinaldo Highway, Nueno Avenue, a street leading to the city plaza, Alapan, and other main roads is meant to give emphasis and importance to the flag and the historical events that have transpired in Imus at the turn of the 20th Century.
The Flag Day celebration in Imus is a prelude to Independence Day activities and festivities at Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, a neighboring municipality, on June 12.
The program proper is set at Dambana ng Pambansang Watawat (Shrine of the National Flag) at Imus’ Heritage Park in Miguel Santo, Barangay Alapan II-B, starting at 7:30 a.m. on May 28.
Gracing the event are Mayor Emmanuel Leonard Maliksi, Governor Jesus Crispin C. Remulla, 3rd District (Imus) Rep. Alex Advincula, Vice Mayor Arnel Cantimbuhan, the city councilors, former Finance Secretary Cesar E.A. Virata, Cavite Historical Society president; National Historical Commission and other agency officials.
The program’s highlights include the wreath-laying at the Dambana ng Inang Laya (Shrine of Mother Freedom) and the singing of the national anthem as well as the raising of the giant flag at the site’s 90-feet pole.
Maliksi, the lead official, will render the main message for the event.
