This Grammer is a winner

While many thought he would only have one hit, Andy Grammer had another, then another, yet another – and still another.

Success in the music industry is never guaranteed as most of those who tried carving a niche in it would admit. But that said, perseverance – lots of it – almost always pays off as learned by American singer, songwriter and record producer Andy Grammer.

Emerging in the business in 2010, many people thought Grammer would just be a “one-hit wonder” after “Keep Your Head Up.” Wrong.

Some eight years after, he has since moved far and away from that, eking out five more hits to his name. These are “Honey I’m Good,” “Fine By Me,” “Back Home, “Good To Be Alive (Hallelujah), and “Fresh Eyes.”

“So maybe ‘6-hit wonder’ would be more appropriate?” he joked.

In an exclusive interview with Bulletin Entertainment, Grammer thinks labels makes no sense.

“Six of my singles have been certified Gold or Platinum in the US,” he said. “‘Keep Your Head Up’ went platinum a long time ago, then I got ‘one-hit wonder’ with that. Then the next went gold, some would probably say ‘Uh, maybe just that one.’ I guess just let them call you that, it’s fine. Let the work prove they’re wrong.”

Grammer, who counts Billy Joel, Lauryn Hill and John Mayer as his musical influences, said “reinventing” himself as singersongwriter is not his cup of tea.

Rather, he would like to “evolve as a person” as “that will result in my music evolving, too.” What’s important to him is to inspire and empower the world by communicating his truths through his music.

Grammer has three albums under his belt now. The second single “Honey, I’m Good” from his second album “Magazines Or Novels” is his most successful song to date, peaking at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is also a certified mult-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and was ranked one of the ten best-selling songs of 2015 by Nielsen SoundScan.

He himself wrote all the songs he released. Talking about his process, the 34-year-old shared, “The process that works for me is to write tons of songs for an album, usually around 100, and once I do that I usually am able to find the handful of songs that I think are great.”

Asked about his future career plans, he shared: “I’m always writing new music so hopefully I will be releasing some new music soon.”

Hey, Manila

Grammer just wrapped up several legs of his ongoing concert tour “The Good Parts,” which is named after his third album released December last year.

Note the album includes his global smash “Fresh Eyes,” which has become a streaming phenomenon with over 300 million total streams worldwide.

“‘The Good Parts Tour’ that I just finished in the US was the best tour that I’ve ever done so far. It was basically a sold out tour and I was able to bring out a bigger and better band than I ever have and was able to bring out bigger and

better production and lighting than I ever have and the fans were better than they’ve ever been. They sang every word to every song I played,” he said.

Grammer will be in Manila for a special and intimate concert as part of his tour.

is the first time the multi-platinum artists will visit the country and, as he put it, “I am super excited!”

“I’ve been wanting to come (in Manila) for awhile. Fans should expect a really fun and energetic show that will hopefully both entertain them and also make their heart feel good and inspired,” he said referring to the concert.

Produced by Wilbros Live, “Andy Grammer Live In Manila” is on June 7 at the Music Museum in Greenhills, San Juan.
