- By LESLEY CAMINADE-VESTIL

CEBU CITY – A Passport on Wheels service will soon come to Cebu City, said Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano.

Cayetano, in an interview, said the DFA has started processing Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s request for a Passport on Wheels in Cebu.

Osmeña requested the DFA for a Passport on Wheels service to address the growing number of passsport applicants who flock to the DFA Cebu office in Mandaue City.

Cayetano said the Passport on Wheels service is expected to roll into Cebu City by August.

Cayetano said the Passport on Wheels service will have five machines capable of handling more than 500 transactions per day.

Aside from the Passport on Wheels service, Cayetano announced that those interested to get passports will no longer need to line up just to pay for issuance and renewal.

Cayetano said that they will soon implement the “E-payment scheme” for passport issuance and renewal in Cebu as a way to provide convenience to Cebuanos.

Cayetano said they started the Epayment scheme as a way to reduce appointments and lines within DFA and consular offices.

The foreign secretary said that the E-payment scheme and the Passport on Wheels mobile issuance services are just two of the DFA’s programs aimed at addressing problems when it comes to appointment and issuance in their offices.

Cayetano added that he plans to provide additional stations at DFA Cebu’s office at the Pacific Mall in Mandaue City that will allow it to issue more than 1,000 passports a day.
