The Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) in Ilocos Region has ranked Nos. 1 and 2 nationwide in terms of Crime Clearance Efficiency (CCE) and Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE), respectively; while investigators in the Police Regional Office 4-B (PRO4-B) in MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) proved to be the best in solving homicide cases.

Chief Superintendent Romulo E. Sapitula, PRO1 regional director (RD), announced over the weekend that among the 17 PROs in the country, PRO1 was able to surpass other regions in terms of peace and order situation based on the reported crime volume and statistics from January to May, 2018.

PRO1 garnered an average rating of 90.30 percent for Crime Clearance and 76.65 percent in Crime Solution Efficiency on both index and non-index crimes.

During the period, PRO1 was able to clear 10,077 out of 11,159 crimes and solved 8,553 crimes based on the recorded data.

Speaking at Camp Gen. Oscar M. Florendo in La Union, Sapitula said: “I am very much grateful for having faithful police in Region 1 and gaining these ranks manifest their dedicated service. We will take the momentum and we will focus more on combating the war on drugs and criminality in the region.”

Earlier, the Philippine National Police’s (PNP’s) Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM) revealed that the PRO4-B ranked No. 1 among all the 17 PROs nationwide in terms of solving homicide cases.

The PRO4-B garnered a rating of 81.67 percent in CSE on homicide cases. Chief Supt. Emmanuel Luis Licup, the regional director, said that out of the 420 homicide cases reported in MIMAROPA, only 77 cases remain unsolved and remain under investigation. The rest were either solved or cleared, he said.

Licup vowed to maintain the good standing of the MIMAROPA regional police in crime-solving, as he ordered all police commanders to continue focusing on training investigators.

Meanwhile, the DIDM data revealed at the recent Oversight Committee meeting at Camp Crame that the PRO6, covering Western Visayas, came in No. 2; while the PRO8 in Eastern Visayas ranked third in the solution of homicide cases.

The assessment came while the PNP is still reeling from the impact of allegations of unsolved killings which critics relate to the ongoing war on drugs. (With a report from Liezle Basa Iñigo)
