SETSCO launches 15 modern jeeps in Pasay, Parañaque
Fifteen units of modern public utility jeepneys were initially rolled out to ply along the Senate loop after its launching led by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and the Senate Employees Transport Service Cooperative (SETSCO) yesterday.
SETSCO, a transport cooperative run by Senate employees since 2004, was chosen by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to launch the first pilot operation of 15 of the modern jeepneys which have been granted by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) permit to operate within the areas of Pasay City and Parañaque City.
Under the permit, the SETSCO has the go-signal in launching its 35 modern PUJs dubbed as “Arangkada sa Pagbabago” to provide quality, safe, environment friendly and affordable public transport.
Of these 35 modern jeepneys, 15 units were initially launched to cover the route of Star City/Cultural Center of the Philippines to Philippine International Convention Center; GSIS/Senate to SM Mall of Asia to Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) and vice versa.
The DOTr said SETSCO was the second cooperative to have been granted a franchise to operate due to its compliance to the PUVMP.
The cooperative was also able to obtain a loan from the Development Bank of the Philippines.
SETSCO is composed of 22 operators headed by its Chairperson Remedios Venturina, and is among the three pre-selected cooperatives to participate in the initial implementation of the PUVMP.
