LTO ships 1st batch of car plates to regions

- By ALEXANDRIA DENNISE SAN JUAN

The Land Transportation Office started shipping the first batch of motor vehicle plates produced by its Plate Making Plant to its regional offices nationwide which will be released next month.

LTO Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante yesterday said that these plates, which were registered from July to October 2016, are now being circulated to all LTO Regional Offices by batches, and will be distributed to its District Offices.

The District Offices will be releasing the plates to their respective vehicle owners.

Galvante said that the available vehicle plates will be released by the LTO simultaneously nationwide starting on the first week of July.

Prior to the distribution, Galvante added that the LTOCentral Office would be giving guidelines on claiming the plates.

“The LTO will notify the vehicle owners on the dates they may claim their plates. We ask our clients to wait for their notification so they do not waste their time going to the LTO Office only to be disappointed,” Galvante explained.

As of Monday, the LTO chief said 387,000 pieces of motor vehicle plates have been produced by its Plate Making Plant.

On motorcycle plates, Galvante reiterated that there is a pending bill at the Congress to design a differently-sized plate.

However, he assured motorcycle plate owners that they will be producing their plates once the Congress gives them the green light.

“Motorcycle owners are free to use their motorcycles as long as these are registered, and their respective MV File Numbers displayed,” he said.

The agency inaugurated its Plate Making Plant last April.
