LPA to spawn rains over parts of Luzon, Visayas

- By ELLALYN DE VERA-RUIZ

The state weather bureau warned of possible flooding in low-lying areas in parts of Luzon and Visayas due to moderate rains from the southwest monsoon and extension of a low pressure area (LPA).

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) yesterday estimated the location of the LPA at 100 kilometers (km) east of Daet, Camarines Norte.

The trough, or advancing clouds of the LPA are expected to bring light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms over Biliran, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Northern Samar, Samar, Southern Leyte, Albay, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon and Masbate.

PAGASA warned residents, especially those living in low-lying areas, of possible floods.

Meanwhile, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Apayao, Batanes and Babuyan group of islands will experience light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon or ‘habagat.’

Monsoon rains could also trigger flooding in low-lying areas, according to PAGASA.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, PAGASA has lifted the gale warning over the coastlines of Northern Luzon as the surge of habagat has weakened.
