Over 20 construction projects in Makati City were temporarily suspended by the city government for failure to secure permits in compliance with the provisions of the National Building Code of the Philippines (PD 1096).

Makati Mayor Abby Binay issued the stoppage order over the projects to send a stern warning to everyone that building construction, whether for residential or for business purposes, should always be done in full compliance with existing laws.

According to Engr. Elmer Acuesta, of the City Building Office, the owners of the 21 construction projects were found to have violated Sections 301 and 1102 of the Code, and Rule XI (Protection of Pedestrians during Construction or Demolition) of its revised Implementing Rules and Regulations.

“We reiterate the need to secure a building permit before doing any construction or renovation work to ensure that it conforms to all safety standards. Above all else, the priority of any building or homeowner and contractor should be the safety and well-being of the occupants, which include family members, workers, and business clients,” Binay said.

Construction projects that were issued with the stoppage order are in the following barangays: Cembo; East Rembo; West Rembo; Palanan; Kasilawan; Poblacion; Pinagkaisahan; San Isidro; San Lorenzo; Guadalupe Nuevo; Pitogo; Bangkal; and San Antonio.

The work stoppage will be in effect until the owners secure the necessary permits, the building official said.
