Amid breakup rumors, Lani says son Jolo has started writing songs

- By STEPHANIE MARIE BERNARDINO

Bacoor Mayor Lani Mercado’s lips were sealed when asked if her son Jolo Revilla and his girlfriend Jodi Sta. Maria have parted ways.

The mother of the actor said she has nothing to say on the subject.

“It would be best if you ask them as they’re already of the right age (to speak for themselves), she said in Filipino.

Perhaps this is a clue? Lani said Jolo is spreading his wings as artist by taking to songwriting.

“My son is now a lyricist,” she divulged. “He has written a numbers of poems. He has a lot of sentiments, a lot of inspirations. I myself ask where he gets it. There came a point that I was amazed over his works.”

According to her, whenever Jolo would finish a piece he would immediately share it to his family.

Lani divulged that his son already recorded a song but she’s not sure if Jolo would release it or even do an album.

“Let’s just wait and see,” the actress teased.

But what’s the theme of Jolo’s songs, we asked.

“Hurt, falling in love, different emotions. About love looking for hope, also love newly blossomed.”

Recall that the rumors started when Jolo sent this birthday greetings to Jodi who turned 36.

“I wish you all the happiness in this world that you deserve. Thank you for bringing out the best in me. Thanks for the wonderful eight years! Happy birthday Jods! God Bless always!” his caption read attached with a candid photo of the actress.

Of course, netizens were quick to speculate there’s something wrong as Jolo referred to his girlfriend as “Jods” rather than with pet names like “my love” and “forever ko (my forever)” he used to call her. In fact last December, the actor even called Jodi his “soon to be wife” in one of his posts. Jodi, on the other hand, shared on her Instagram account that she celebrated her recent birthday by spending time with kids from a nonprofit charity organization that helps children with cancer and other chronic illnesses. But the awkward vibes didn’t stop there as few days after, Jolo posted cryptic posts. First is through an Instagram Stories photo which read: “Accept what is, let go of what was, and have faith in what will be.” Then a tweet that read, “When something is really meant for you, you don’t have to force it, rush it, or manipulate it.” Recall that the couple first admitted their relationship in 2012. However, they broke up four years later, then, apparently, reconciled.
