The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Wednesday extended its invitation to young Filipino professionals who are currently involved in regional disaster management in government and related institutions to apply for a study grant on Japan’s disaster risk reduction (DRR) experience.
Under the agency’s Knowledge CoCreation Program (KCCP), those who will qualify will have the opportunity to visit the Tohoku Region, the site of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.
During the visit, participants will attend lectures on disaster preparedness and recovery, community business, regional revitalization during reconstruction as well as observations of best practices in Japan’s government organizations, universities, and disaster-prone areas.
“JICA and the Philippines have longstanding trusted relationship and friendship that we like to further strengthen. With this, we are giving opportunities to young Filipinos to train in Japan and lead in their fields with competence and purpose when they return to the Philippines,” JICA Senior Representative Aya Kano said in a statement.
The Japanese aid agency said the course is open to young Filipinos involved in regional development and disaster management in their respective government offices or related organizations.
During the 10-day stay, trainees will also learn about appropriate and efficient management of disaster waste disposal in Morioka City and fishery sector as tourism resource in Kesunnuma City in Iwate Prefecture.
JICA said the course will be from October 23 to November 3, 2018.
