New transmission line energized in Cotabato

KIDAPAWAN CITY – Officials of the Cotabato Electric Cooperative (Cotelco) energized on Wednesday another 69-kilovolt transmission line located in Antipas, North Cotabato.

Cotelco general manager Engineer Godofredo Homez said the project, which costs P100 million, will benefit thousands of electric consumers in Antipas and Arakan, both hinterland towns.

The Antipas transmission line will get power from Cotelco’s 10MVA substation in Barangay Paco, Kidapawan City, according to Homez.

“By energizing the line, we will resolve power woes of our consumers in the hinterlands. We’ve received several complaints from our consumers there on low power,” he stressed.

The Antipas line is an addition to at least three existing 69-KV transmission lines owned by the power co-op since it started its operations few decades back.

There are an estimated 100,000 power consumers in Cotelco’s service areas in North Cotabato, data from the company showed.

The co-op gets power supply from the coal-fired plants of the Aboitiz in Toril, Davao City; geothermal power of the Energy Development Cooperation at Mount Apo; hydroelectric power from Agus plants in Iligan City; and Therma South, Inc., in Mati, Davao Oriental.

Homez said the co-op is no longer lacking in supply since there are already enough power producers in Mindanao.
