In-depth probe on Ecija mayor’s killing ordered

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – The Central Luzon police on Wednesday ordered a thorough investigat­ion into the killing of General Tinio, Nueva Ecija Mayor Engr. Ferdinand Bote, who was shot dead by motorcycle­riding gunmen in Cabanatuan City the other day.

“PRO3 strongly condemns the killing of Mayor Bote, thus, I have ordered an in-depth probe into this incident and we are looking at all angles to establish possible motives,” said Central Luzon police director Chief Supt. Amador Corpus.

“We are exerting all means to get to the bottom of this unfortunat­e incident and we are now in the process of gathering evidence that will lead us to the identifica­tion of the culprit,” he added.

He said the incident will be a top priority because it involved a local chief executive.

Initial police reports received here said that Mayor Bote was on leaving a government office aboard his Toyota Fortuner along Maharlika Highway in Brgy Imelda, Cabanatuan City when he was shot.

He was declared dead on arrival at MV Gallego Cabanatuan City General Hospital.

The Central Luzon police chief assured the Bote family of their total commitment to a speedy investigat­ion and resolution of the incident.

He also called on the public to support and report any informatio­n that will lead to the quick resolution of the case.

“Do not hesitate to come forward and please report to the nearest station or through PNP hotline 0998598533­0/0927946474­1,” said Corpus. In a related developmen­t, a source who requested anonymity claimed that a R1-million bounty has been raised for informatio­n that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrato­rs and mastermind­s of the killing.

Police sources who likewise begged off from being identified, said that investigat­ors are looking at the business rivalry and political angles. (With a report from Ariel P. Avendano)
