Cavite anti-drug drive: 1 killed, 30 arrested

CAMP GEN. PANTALEON GARCIA, IMUS, Cavite – A drug suspect who reportedly resisted arrest was shotm dead while 30 others were arrested in separate anti-illegal drugs operations in Cavite since Tuesday.

The Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) identified the fatality as a certain ‘Nano,’ who defied a police checkpoint team and was killed in the ensuing shootout at around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday in the municipali­ty of General Mariano Alvatez (GMA).

The PPO also reported that a total 30 other drug suspects were also nabbed during police operations from 6 a.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m.Wednesday in Barangay Tejero, General Trias City; Halang, Naic; De las Alas and Ramon Cruz, GMA; Yakal, Silang: Poblacion, Indang; Talaba V, Bacoor City; Malagasang 2-D and Pagasa II, Imus City and San Andres and Kristina I, Dasmarinas City.

The suspects were identified in a journal or spot reports that the PPO released on Wednesday to the media.

The GMA police reported that ‘Nano’ died on the spot from bullet wounds after he traded shots with police after he ignored an“Oplan Sita” or checkpoint on Congressio­nal Road in Poblacion I.

Chief Inspector Romulo Co de la Rea, municipal police chief, said that ‘Nano’ was listed as a drug pusher and robber in GMA and Silang.

The chiefs of police (CoP) in the province’s seven cities and 16 municipali­ties are on orders to monitor drug pushers and other criminals and conduct operations day and night in their respective jurisdicti­ons.

PPO records showed that ‘Nano’ was the 31st resisting drug suspect killed in police operations this year.

The number of pushers and drug users arrested is breaching the 2,000 mark.
