COTABATO CITY – The Department of Education (DepEd) of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) has hired and deployed, this week, 765 new teachers for the two school districts in Maguindanao.

After signing the appointments and deployment orders of the new teachers, ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman swore in the appointees in two batches at the Shariff Kabunsuan Culture Center inside the ARMM compound here.

The first batch of 330 new teachers, including 288 for elementary and 147 for secondary, took the mass oath-taking and ceremonial deployment on Monday for the second schools district of Maguindanao.

The second batch of 435 new teachers - 192 for elementary and 138 for secondary – underwent similar rites on Tuesday for the first district of Maguindanao.

DepEd-ARMM Secretary Rasol Mitmug Jr., who assisted Hataman in both ceremonies, said the hiring and deployment of the 765 new teachers for Maguindanao followed stringent screening processes, including assess- ment and competence examinations, interviews and teaching demonstrations.

Mitmug said the appointment and deployment of new teachers for school districts and divisions in other ARMM component provinces, namely: Tawi-Tawi, Sulu, Basilan and Lanao del Sur will follow soon.

A statement from the ARMM”s Bureau of Public Information indicated that the just sworn-in Maguindanao’s mentors were among 2,458 new teachers being processed for hiring and deployment across the region.

Some of the appointed teachers told The Manila Bulletin that they will |live up to the mandate” of their oaths and “provide quality education” for the youth in ARMM and help abate illiteracy rate in the region.
