- By ROY C. MABASA

Five of six members of a FilipinoAmerican family who just came from a summer beach vacation were killed in a horrific car crash in Townsend, Delaware over the weekend.

Audie Marquez Trinidad, 61, a US Navy veteran who worked at the postal office in Bronx, New York, together with his daughters Kaitlyn Trinidad, 20; Danna Trinidad, 17; and 13-yearold twins Melissa Trinidad and Allison Trinidad, all died in the accident.

Mary Rose Ballocanag, Trinidad’s 53-year-old wife and mother of their children, was in the passenger seat and survived. Reports said she has broken ribs, arms, and legs and remained in serious condition at a Delaware hospital as of Sunday morning (Saturday night in the US east coast).

Reports said Audie Trinidad was driving a 1999 Toyota Sienna minivan on the northbound lane of Delaware Highway 1 in Townsend when a Ford F-350 driven by a 44-year-old Maryland man traveling south suddenly crossed the grassy median for an unknown reason, and hit the vehicle of the Trinidad family. Another car was hit in the process.

The Trinidad family was on their way back to Teaneck, New Jersey after spending a vacation in Ocean City Maryland when the tragic incident happened.

It was learned that Trinidad and Ballocanag met in New York after coming to the United States in the 1980s. After working with the US Navy, Trinidad was a postal worker in the Bronx. Ballocanag, on the other hand, is a nurse at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan.
