NU, PAF on a roll

Defending champion National University and Air Force streaked to their third straight wins by beating their respective rivals in the PCABL 7th Dickies Women’s Basketball Tournament held over the weekend at the Buddhacare gym in Quezon City.

Working behind their deadly run-and-gun game, the NU Lady Bulldogs erupted for 24 points in the third quarter to hack out a 75-65 win over the University of the East Lady Warriors while the Lady High Flyers carved out a come-from-behind 67-62 win over the Adamson Lady Falcons.

Ria Nabalan starred again for NU, touching off a decisive third quarter breakaway with her wondrous moves. She finished with 17 points.

Two other NU players – Jack Animan and Maymay Canuto – posted in double figures to help hand their UAAP rivals their third straight defeat in the annual tournament also backed by EuroMed, Multimotor­s Auto Parts, CW Home Depot, Choi Garden Restaurant and Blackwater.

In the other game, Army chalked up its third straight win in four games by repulsing Philippine Under-18 team, 70-63.

Despite missing all but one of her 14 tries from the 3-point zone, FIBA World Cup veteran Jhanine Pontejos still led Army with 24 points. She was ably supported by Mat Gadian, Chack Cabinbin and Love Joy Sto. Domingo who combined for 36 points.
