NU football on the rise

-

National University (NU) is leaving no stone unturned in its quest to become one of the powerhouse teams in the UAAP football competition.

Co-managers Joseph Garcia and BJ Manalo expressed confidence that NU has taken significant steps in fulfilling that goal after the success of the junior and senior teams in the recent Ang Liga Season 15 tournament.

The juniors squad won the Division II crown while the NU seniors placed third behind champion San Beda University and runner-up University of the Philippines.

“From here on, I think we're not going to settle for anything less than a top four,” Garcia said during yesterday's PSA Forum at the Tapa King Cubao branch.

Both football teams, backed by DDT Konstruct Inc. chaired by Daniel D. Tamayo, is setting its sights on reaching new heights after the juniors squad almost reached the UAAP finals on its maiden campaign and the seniors side placing sixth the previous season.

Coached by Mari Aberasturi, NU is scheduled to compete in the 16th season of Ang Liga which starts this month and the Unigames later this year before plugging into action in the UAAP.

Manalo saud NU has about 78 players on its pool in hopes of building a program that equal with the traditional UAAP contenders, namely defending champion UP, Far Eastern University, Ateneo, La Salle and University of Santo Tomas.
