Leyte farmers go into pig-raising

TACLOBAN CITY – A farmers associatio­n from Dagami town in Leyte province has received P775,000 from the provincial government to start a swine-raising project. Governor Leopoldo Dominico L. Petilla led the ceremonial ribbon cutting during the project turnover along with Lt. Col. Danilo Dupiag, commander of the Army’s 75th Infantry Battalion, The beneficiar­y organizati­on is the Christian Farmers Welfare Associatio­n in Barangay Calipayan which has 27 members. Petilla said the project package consist of one breeder hog worth P75,000 and 20 females worth P35,000 each. The farmers underwent training on piggery production for the project, he said. The associatio­n will provide the materials and will build the pens for the swine. The project is expected to improve the living conditions of the farmers in Dagami who have not completely recovered from the destructio­n brought about by Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013, Petilla said.
