More outposts in Cebu City to increase police visibility

- By CALVIN CORDOVA

CEBU CITY — More police outposts will be put up around the city as part of the new police chief’s plan to focus more on police visibility.

Sr. Supt. Royina Garma said 20 more outposts will be added, and 80 officers will be assigned to man them.

The additional outposts are designed to increase police visibility and deter crime, said Garma.

“There is a psychological impact when the public sees unformed personnel manning public places. It is easier to prevent crimes than solve crimes,” she said.

The officers can also be called on to direct traffic, said Garma.

Garma said the city police is also stepping up its campaign against illegal drugs.

She said she will meet with officials of barangays that are seriously affected by illegal drugs.

“The agenda of the meeting is that I want to get their support. I want to hear their plans and I will do my best to converge our resources,” Garma said.

Garma said there must be cooperation between the barangays and the police in the campaign against illegal drugs.

“I also want to have an assurance of their commitment in the campaign against illegal drugs. I want to share with them my plans. We will have an arrangement and assure each other that we will be there to support each other,” she said.
