New top-level PNP reshuffle looms
The continuous performance review of police personnel will likely trigger another movement within the ranks of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the weeks to come.
PNP chief Oscar Albayalde said the national oversight committee was still deliberating on the performance of city and provincial police directors, but they are keeping an eye on "some" officials.
"Pagdating sa PD [provincial director] and CD [city director] hindi pa tayo tapos doon. We are looking [at] a few [officials] sa ibang cities and provinces (When it comes to the [performance review] of the PD and CD, we are not yet finished. We are looking [at] a few [officials] in some cities and provinces)," Albayalde said.
He also said some police directors who have finished the mandatory two years tour of duty will have to be reassigned. He previously said that keeping the police directors moving will help them sustain their efficiency and passion for service.
He did not provide further details on what city and provincial police officers they are keeping track.
Albayalde said he is satisfied with the performances of almost all regional directors after a series of shake-ups in the previous months.
"As far as the national oversight committee is concerned, I think all the RDs have reacted. They are all aligned in what we are saying as the PNP's thrust," he said.
After assuming the top PNP post in April, Albayalde ordered a monthly review of regional, city and provincial directors down to the precinct commanders, to check on their performance.
Last June 1, Albayalde announced a massive reshuffle that sent Director Guillermo Eleazar to the helm of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and Sr. Supt. Benigno Durana to the Public Information Office post. About 20 other directors were also included in the initial reshuffle.
