Palace welcomes Marawi folk’s trust in government

- By GENALYN D. KABILING

Malacañang is grateful that based on latest survey results, majority of Marawi City residents still trust President Duterte and appreciated the government-led rehabilitation efforts.

"It is important to note that even after the Marawi siege, majority continues to put their trust in the President,” Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said.

"We are indeed grateful that a sizeable majority of Marawi City respondents believes that our rebuilding and rehabilitation efforts are going in the right track. Seventyeight percent (78%) acknowledged the 'good things done by the government,' including relief operations as well as shelter and financial aid for evacuees," he added.

A Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey recently found majority of Marawi residents claimed their lives were worse now following the terror siege.

But many residents were also optimistic that Marawi City will fully recover within Duterte's term.

The survey also found 78 percent of Marawi City residents appreciate the government's relief efforts.

Roque also said the survey on the postconflict expectations in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao should be taken on a "holistic view."

He said they understand the sentiment of the residents if they feel less convinced that Duterte has concern for Muslims since Marawi City was ground zero of the terror siege.

"Fifty percent of residents of Marawi City believe that PRRD has concern for Muslims. This sentiment, which is lower compared to other areas, is understandable, given that Marawi City has been the center of the Maute rebellion, which resulted in its destruction and displacement of its residents, as cited by 32% of Marawi City respondents," he said.
