PBA star Rey Evangelista, partners form Eastern Visayas Basketball League

TACLOBAN CITY – A group of basketball enthusiasts and aficionados headed by retired Philippine Basketball Association star Rey Evangelista recently formed the Eastern Visayas Basketball League (EVBL) aimed at discovering and training future caging greats.
Evangelista, the EVBL President and Chief Executive Officer said the newly formed league will be scouting for young basketball players who will be tapped to join teams that will see action in the league’s tournaments in the region.
Evangelista, who had a stellar collegiate career with the University of Santo Tomas Tigers in the UAAP before becoming the mainstays of the Purefoods franchise in the PBA, said they will be visiting provinces, cities and municipalities in the region and invite teams and join in the league.
He said there are a good number of talented, young basketball players still waiting to be discovered.
He said the basketball teams will be named after local government units to help promote communities in Leyte and Samar.
