Speeding motorcycle rams into truck
KIDAPAWAN CITY – A motorist, who was alleged to have been overspeeding on his motocycle while negotiating a dangerous curve on the treacherous KidapawanMakilala highway, was killed when he rammed into a 10-wheeler truck at around 11 a.m. Friday, police said.
Chief Inspector John Rick Medel, chief of Makilala PNP, identified the victim as Nelson Duran Bacayo, 59, a construction worker from Hagonoy, Davao del Sur.
Medel, citing reports from Makilala PNP’s traffic division, said Bacayo was on his way to Digos City when he hit the truck’s rear portion, catapulting him on to the pavement near Malaang Bridge in Barangay Saguing, Makilala.
The trailer truck was carrying a backhoe when the incident occurred and was headed towards Kidapawan City.
A rescue team from Makilala PNP rushed Bacayo to the nearest hospital where he declared dead by his attending physicians a few minutes later, according to Medel.
Bystanders told media here that despite the accident, the truck driver, who was later identified as Danny Perez Geraldino, 49, of Tibungco, Davao City, failed to stop and continued driving his vehicle until he reached Kidapawan City.
Medel, however, did not consider it a hit-and-run incident.
“The driver, Mr. Geraldino was afraid of being beaten by bystanders so he looked for a nearest police station. He thought of surrendering to the Kidapawan City PNP, which he did,” said Medel.
Geraldino was later turned over to Makilala PNP where he underwent questioning from the traffic and investigation units.
