Another NCCC Mall opens in Davao City

- By ANTONIO L. COLINA IV

DAVAO CITY – Just seven months after a deadly fire gutted its first mall in Ma-a District here, LTS Pinnacle Holdings Inc. opened its latest-four story NCCC Mall Buhangin on Sunday.

Lafayette Lim, the company’s chief executive officer, said in an interview that the new mall, which sports a much more modern look, was a tribute to the city’s exponential growth.

Located along Km. 7, Tigatto Road in Barangay Buhangin, he said they intend to cater to the growing market in the area, including the neighboring communities around Buhangin.

“It’s our way of saying that we have full confidence in the growth of Davao City. As you can see it’s a very beautiful mall, Davao has not seen a mall like this before. Aside from that, it’s for our customers it’s still the NCCC they knew of,” he added.

The mall currently initially opened the supermarket and department store, but tenants are expected to open shop in the coming weeks, and the four cinemas by September, Lim said.

The cinemas will sport “the latest Dolby Atmos Sound Technology with a 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos system and XPand 3D,” the first and only in Mindanao.

The budget for the latest project of the homegrown mall operator was P1 billion, which would generate around 1,500 to 2,000 jobs.

It was inaugurated on September 24, 2016 in a nearly one-hectare property with Consunji-owned DMCI as contractor.

Lim said there are plans to rebuild the destroyed mall after the demolition is completed.

The demolition started on May 19 and is expected to be completed within the year, he said.

NCCC public relations manager Thea Septann S. Padua said around 85 tenants, composed of a mixture of high-end and local brands, will be housed in the latest mall.

Padua said the company installed a building management system, a centralized system that allows the mall management to detect any emergencies to prevent a repeat of the massive deadly fire that killed 38 workers.

This would have been the homegrown company’s second in the city and fourth in the country after the ill-fated 14-year old NCCC Mall Davao in Maa, NCCC Mall Tagum, and NCCC Mall Puerto Princesa.

Designed by architecture firm Asya Design, Padua added that NCCC Mall Buhangin will showcase an al fresco garden area/roof deck on the fourth floor and boast of features such as “highly-efficient air-conditioning system that generates more airflow but less noise, skylights that let in natural lighting and the use of volatile organic compound paint which are less toxic.”
