LPA likely to develop into tropical cyclone
One of two low pressure areas (LPAs) inside the country’s area of responsibility has an increasing chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone that may enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat.
According to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Meno Mendoza, the LPA, at 1,280 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, has a high probability of developing into a tropical depression.
Should it become a cyclone, it will be given a local name of “Karding.”
However, Mendoza said the weather disturbance is not seen to hit land but may induce monsoon rains over some parts of the country in the next few days.
Meanwhile, he said the other LPA estimated at 615 kilometers west of Subic, Zambales is less likely to become a cyclone.
Mendoza said the southwest monsoon will prevail over Southern Luzon and Visayas.
Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo and Negros Occidental will experience cloudy skies with isolated rains and thunderstorms due to the habagat.
Metro Manila, Masbate, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Laguna, Rizal, Quezon, Aurora, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, and the rest of Visayas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains or thunderstorms.
PAGASA said localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers over Mindanao and the rest of Luzon.
It advised the public to be on alert for possible flash floods or landslides throughout the country due to moderate to occasional heavy rains or thunderstorms.
It also warned seafarers of moderate to rough seas over the western section of Southern Luzon and Visayas, while moderate seas will persist over Mindanao and the rest of Southern Luzon and Visayas.
Meanwhile, slight to moderate seas will prevail across Northern and Central Luzon.
